Editing

First Stage of Editing (7/12/15)

This is the first stage of editing, we started to cut together our raw footage in chronological order to start to see what our opening would look like. We then got some people to watch it and tell us what they thought we could do to improve it.

We took on all of the points above and decided to incorporate the idea of the radio as we thought it would be a good way to give some background to the opening sequence and we also thought that a radio was a clearer idea than our original idea.

Second Stage of Editing (9/12/15)

This is the second stage of editing, we put together a very rough cut of the entire opening sequence. The opening involved the sound from the footage with no typography or music of any kind, we had done a few cuts of some footage sections to start creating some match on action but all of the shots were still quite rough.

After looking at the opening sequence again we realised that there were some scenes in which we night have to re-film these were:
Kira putting the cans in the backpack because her head was cut off.
George picking up the papers as it wasn't clear who was picking them up.
Panning shot of the zombies in the field, it needed to be longer and have a bigger build up to it.
Kira's response to the zombies, she should be more frightened.
Kira getting the radio, there was a continuity error as she was still wearing her backpack.

Third Stage of Editing (14/12/15)

By this stage of the editing we had added music to the background of the opening sequence as well as a voice over and some rough credits. We had made some shots longer to add tension and build up to the dramatic sections of the opening. We also adjusted the audio levels of the institutions at the beginning of the opening as well because we thought that they were too loud compared to the rest of the opening.

We used the point from above to adjust the sound so it didn't sound like a trailer, we also thought that changing the typography would be better as it was obscuring most of the picture and distracting the viewer form the opening sequence.

Fourth Stage of Editing (16/12/15)

We both decided that we might need to have a re-shoot however, we weren't able to re-arrange one due to me and Lucy being too busy and not being able to get the cast back to the location, therefore we decided that we would use the footage that we already had and edit and crop it to fit our needs instead of having to re-shoot different sections.

We added in dramatic music for the title so that we could capture the audiences attention it also helps highlight the fact that it is the title of the film and helps to make it stand out further. We increased the length of more shots to increase the tension throughout the opening. The extended shots would allow us to increase the typography and credits so that they are easier to read. The shot of the radio was extended to make sure that the audience knew where the broadcast was coming from. We also added some extra radio noises to the opening to show frequency change and distortion.

Fifth Stage of Editing (18/12/15)

In this edit we made some minor adjustments from peoples comments, this included making some of the sound quieter and also making the interruption between characters clearer.

From this point onwards the editing that we did consisted of minor changes to different aspects of the film which Lucy and I spotted, almost all of these next edits were to be classed as our final opening sequence however, we always found something that we weren't happy with and had to change.

Sixth Stage of Editing (7/1/16)

In this edit we changed some very minor things, this included increasing the amount of time that the 10 days earlier was on screen, we thought that this would be a better way to end our opening sequence and also if we were to continue to create the film it would be a good way to transition the scenes to a flashback.

Seventh Stage of Editing (11/1/16)

We thought that adding a tinnitus sound to the ending of the opening sequence would be a good idea to transition into the next scene. It also changes the pace at the end of opening sequence and leaves the audience to question what will happen next.

Eighth Stage of Editing (14/1/16)

In this edit we change a minor blip that had occurred in some of the voice recordings that we had, therefore we had to cut the clip so that the blip wasn't include in the opening sequence. We also changed the overlapping heartbeat that was causing confusing and sound problems in the build up to the monsters shot and we also decreased the sound in the raw footage for the packing away the radio shot as it didn't fit with the music due to the gun shots in the background. After we had edited all of this we uploaded our final edit for the opening sequence.
